ON DOING, NOT BEING
Human beings are wired for connection. When we disconnect, we go into crisis. Human interaction as it was once known will no longer be part of our civilization. The depth and wisdom of knowing each other will vanish with pushing fingers on a keyboard as opposed to looking into the eyes of each other and seeing the soul of a human being. Instead, conversation will be looking down onto a keyboard void of feelings, touch and love. What our generation is going through is much of anxiety and depression that is a result of loneliness and especially, human touch.
Many spiritual masters remind us that we are human beings not human doings. But what does that mean exactly? Basically we are spiritual beings or consciousness residing in physical bodies. We are here on earth to live, experience things and learn which means “to be.” Yet at the same time we need to survive in the physical realm and that usually means working and earning a living or “doing.” Not only this the basic phenomenon is this that when we are being something then it’s for our own good but when we are doing something it is mostly for others. And life is not at all about being happy for your own self, it’s much about making others happy and satisfied by your doings. As said my Martin Luther King “Life’s most persistent and urgent question is, ‘What are you doing for others?
And its not all a difficult task. It’s something which one can do easily in his/her life. You can never understand the price of that smile which you put on the face of that elder who is living in an old house and has left with no family that can visit him. Looking at him, feeding him with your own hands or just sitting by that old man will give him immense happiness and gives you a sense of complete satisfaction. Life is all about sharing, caring and loving.
Same like this being human is easy. One can easily say that I am being human, I do not fight with anyone but doing those human things and doing them with love is most important thing. In today’s world, including all of us, we say that we are Muslims. But there are very few amongst us who actually do what a Muslim is supposed to do. And one who is also doing all this doesn’t have to prove himself as Muslim. Everyone easily understands by his doings that he is a Muslim.
Another thing which has to be taken under consideration is this that what so ever we want to do we have to do it right now, never let your doings wait. The best preparation for tomorrow is doing your best today. And never get scared that a small effort of yours cannot bring a change. Look at the history and you will find out that big revolutions are the result of the small steps of an individual. Individuals who took steps for the betterment of others. Who did amazing things instead of just being amazing.
One should always think on a larger level. When people will start thinking in majority then there will not be anything like minority. These caste systems, standards and statuses are the fruits of non-thinking or own thinking minds. Minds who could not stand above their BEING level. Lets forget what bad happened to us by others and focus on what we can do for society, people, masses and nations. We all should make our own selves positive for society. Remember, onewho is too busy being good finds no time to do good.
Let’s infuse our life with action. Don’t wait for it to happen. Make it happen. Make our own future. Make our own hope. Make our own love. And whatever our beliefs are, honor our creator, not by passively waiting for grace to come down from upon high, but by doing what we can, to make grace happen. Do it, right now, right down here on Earth. Being good will earn you paradise or higher ranks in Jannah, but doing good will raise your standards here and in after world as well.
